"比丘们,这世间中存在着四种人。是哪四种呢?为自己利益而修行但不为他人利益,为他人利益而修行但不为自己利益,既不为自己利益也不为他人利益而修行,既为自己利益也为他人利益而修行。
"比丘们,怎样的人是为自己利益而修行但不为他人利益呢?在此,比丘们,某些人自己实践断除贪欲之道,但不鼓励他人断除贪欲;自己实践断除嗔恨之道,但不鼓励他人断除嗔恨;自己实践断除愚痴之道,但不鼓励他人断除愚痴。比丘们,这样的人是为自己利益而修行但不为他人利益。
"比丘们,怎样的人是为他人利益而修行但不为自己利益呢?在此,比丘们,某些人自己不实践断除贪欲之道,却鼓励他人断除贪欲;自己不实践断除嗔恨之道,却鼓励他人断除嗔恨;自己不实践断除愚痴之道,却鼓励他人断除愚痴。比丘们,这样的人是为他人利益而修行但不为自己利益。
