"比丘们,有信心的比丘若要正确地发愿,应当这样发愿:'愿我能像舍利弗和目犍连那样。'比丘们,这是衡量我的比丘弟子的标准,即舍利弗和目犍连。"

"比丘们,有信心的比丘尼若要正确地发愿,应当这样发愿:'愿我能像翅摩比丘尼和莲华色比丘尼那样。'比丘们,这是衡量我的比丘尼弟子的标准,即翅摩比丘尼和莲华色比丘尼。"

"比丘们,有信心的优婆塞若要正确地发愿,应当这样发愿:'愿我能像质多居士和阿拉维的诃德卡那样。'比丘们,这是衡量我的优婆塞弟子的标准,即质多居士和阿拉维的诃德卡。"

"比丘们,具有两种法的智者、有智慧者、善人能保护自己,不为智者所呵责,且造下许多善业。是哪两种法?经过调查、深入后对不值得称赞的人说其过失,经过调查、深入后对值得称赞的人给予赞叹。比丘们,具有这两种法的智者、有智慧者、善人能保护自己,不为智者所呵责,且造下许多善业。"

"比丘们,具有两种法的愚人、无智者、非善人会伤害自己,为智者所呵责,且造下许多恶业。是哪两种法?不经调查、不经深入就对不值得信赖的事表示信赖,不经调查、不经深入就对值得信赖的事表示不信赖。比丘们,具有这两种法的愚人、无智者、非善人会伤害自己,为智者所呵责,且造下许多恶业。"


"比丘们,具有两种法的智者、有智慧者、善人能保护自己,不为智者所呵责,且造下许多善业。是哪两种法?经过调查、深入后对不值得信赖的事表示不信赖,经过调查、深入后对值得信赖的事表示信赖。比丘们,具有这两种法的智者、有智慧者、善人能保护自己,不为智者所呵责,且造下许多善业。"
