171 畏惧经
如是我闻——一时,世尊住在舍卫城祇树给孤独园。在那里,世尊呼唤比丘们:"比丘们!"那些比丘回答世尊:"尊者!"世尊如此说道——
"比丘们,具备五法的优婆塞(在家男居士),是陷入畏惧的。哪五种呢?他杀生,他偷盗(不与取),他邪淫(于诸欲行邪行),他妄语,他饮酒(饮用谷酒、果酒等令人放逸之处)。比丘们,具备这五法的优婆塞,是陷入畏惧的。
"比丘们,具备五法的优婆塞,是无畏的(有信心的)。哪五种呢?他远离杀生,他远离偷盗,他远离邪淫,他远离妄语,他远离饮酒(远离饮用谷酒、果酒等令人放逸之处)。比丘们,具备这五法的优婆塞,是无畏的。"

"比丘们,具备五法的优婆塞,无自信地住在家中。哪五种呢?他杀生,(中略)他饮酒(饮用谷酒、果酒等令人放逸之处)。比丘们,具备这五法的优婆塞,无自信地住在家中。
"比丘们,具备五法的优婆塞,有自信地住在家中。哪五种呢?他远离杀生,(中略)他远离饮酒(远离饮用谷酒、果酒等令人放逸之处)。比丘们,具备这五法的优婆塞,有自信地住在家中。"

173 地狱经
"比丘们,具备五法的优婆塞,如同被搬运放置一般,(投生)到地狱。哪五种呢?他杀生,(中略)他饮酒(饮用谷酒、果酒等令人放逸之处)。比丘们,具备这五法的优婆塞,如同被搬运放置一般,(投生)到地狱。
"比丘们,具备五法的优婆塞,如同被搬运放置一般,(投生)到天界。哪五种呢?他远离杀生,(中略)他远离饮酒(远离饮用谷酒、果酒等令人放逸之处)。比丘们,具备这五法的优婆塞,如同被搬运放置一般,(投生)到天界。"

174 怨敌经
那时,给孤独长者(居士)来到世尊处。到了之后,礼敬世尊,在一旁坐下。对坐在一旁的给孤独长者,世尊如此说道——
"居士,不断除五种怖畏与怨恨的人,被称为'恶戒者',并且投生到地狱。哪五种呢?杀生、偷盗(不与取)、邪淫(于诸欲行邪行)、妄语、饮酒(饮用谷酒、果酒等令人放逸之处)——居士,不断除这五种怖畏与怨恨的人,被称为'恶戒者',并且投生到地狱。
"居士,断除五种怖畏与怨恨的人,被称为'持戒者',并且投生到善趣。哪五种呢?杀生、偷盗、邪淫、妄语、饮酒——居士,断除这五种怖畏与怨恨的人,被称为'持戒者',并且投生到善趣。
"居士,杀生者以杀生为缘,在今世也产生怖畏与怨恨,在来世也产生怖畏与怨恨,也感受到心中的苦与忧。远离杀生者,既不产生今世的怖畏与怨恨,也不产生来世的怖畏与怨恨,也不感受心中的苦与忧。对于远离杀生者,那怖畏与怨恨就这样寂灭了。
"居士,偷盗者(不与取者)……(中略)。
"居士,邪淫者(于诸欲行邪行者)……(中略)。
"居士,妄语者……(中略)。
"居士,饮酒者(饮用谷酒、果酒等令人放逸之处者)以饮酒为缘,在今世也产生怖畏与怨恨,在来世也产生怖畏与怨恨,也感受到心中的苦与忧。远离饮酒者,既不产生今世的怖畏与怨恨,也不产生来世的怖畏与怨恨,也不感受心中的苦与忧。对于远离饮酒者,那怖畏与怨恨就这样寂灭了。"
(偈颂:)
"那杀害生命的人,说妄语的人,
在世间拿取不与之物的人,去与他人之妻(行邪淫)的人,
以及沉溺于饮用谷酒、果酒的人。
"不断除这五种怨恨的人,被称为恶戒者;
身体破灭后,那愚者投生到地狱。
"那不杀害生命的人,不说妄语的人,
在世间不拿取不与之物的人,不去与他人之妻(不行邪淫)的人,
以及不沉溺于饮用谷酒、果酒的人。
"断除五种怨恨的人,被称为持戒者;
身体破灭后,那智者投生到善趣。"
