36 五百辆马车经
佛陀住在王舍城竹林精舍迦兰陀竹园。
当时,提婆达多得到阿阇世王子的支持,王子每天早晚乘五百辆马车前去拜见他,并且有五百钵的食物供养被送去。
于是,众多比丘来到世尊所在处。到达后,向世尊礼敬,然后坐在一旁。坐在一旁的这些比丘对世尊说:"尊者,提婆达多得到阿阇世王子每天早晚乘五百辆马车前去拜见,并且有五百钵的食物供养被送去。"
[佛陀回应]"比丘们,不要羡慕提婆达多的利养、恭敬和名声。只要阿阇世王子继续每天早晚乘五百辆马车去拜见他,送去五百钵食物,提婆达多在善法上就必定会衰退,不会增长。"
"比丘们,就像有人在凶恶的狗的鼻子上抹胆汁,这只会使那只狗变得更加凶暴。同样地,比丘们,只要提婆达多继续接受阿阇世王子每天早晚乘五百辆马车的拜见和五百钵食物的供养,他在善法上就必定会衰退,不会增长。利养、恭敬和名声就是如此可怕...比丘们,你们应当如此修学。"这是第六经。

"比丘们,利养、恭敬和名声是可怕的、苦涩的、粗暴的,是证得无上解脱的障碍。在此,比丘们,我以心观察某人之心而知道:'这位尊者即使为了母亲的缘故也不会故意说妄语。'然而我看到他后来被利养、恭敬和名声所征服,心被污染,竟然说起妄语来。比丘们,利养、恭敬和名声就是如此可怕、苦涩、粗暴,是证得无上解脱的障碍。因此,比丘们,你们应当这样学习:'我们要舍弃已生起的利养、恭敬和名声,不让已生起的利养、恭敬和名声控制我们的心。'比丘们,你们应当如此修学。"这是第七经。

第四品完。

185. Rājagahe viharati veḷuvane kalandakanivāpe. Tena kho pana samayena devadattassa ajātasattukumāro pañcahi rathasatehi sāyaṃ pātaṃ upaṭṭhānaṃ gacchati, pañca ca thālipākasatāni bhattābhihāro abhiharīyati. Atha kho sambahulā bhikkhū yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamiṃsu; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu. Ekamantaṃ nisinnā kho te bhikkhū bhagavantaṃ etadavocuṃ– “devadattassa, bhante, ajātasattukumāro pañcahi rathasatehi sāyaṃ pātaṃ upaṭṭhānaṃ gacchati, pañca ca thālipākasatāni bhattābhihāro abhiharīyatī”ti. “Mā, bhikkhave, devadattassa lābhasakkārasilokaṃ pihayittha. Idhāhaṃ bhikkhave, ekaccaṃ puggalaṃ evaṃ cetasā ceto paricca pajānāmi– ‘na cāyamāyasmā mātupi hetu sampajānamusā bhāseyyā’ti. Tamenaṃ passāmi aparena samayena lābhasakkārasilokena abhibhūtaṃ pariyādiṇṇacittaṃ sampajānamusā bhāsantaṃ. Evaṃ dāruṇo kho, bhikkhave, lābhasakkārasiloko kaṭuko pharuso antarāyiko anuttarassa yogakkhemassa adhigamāya. Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ– ‘uppannaṃ lābhasakkārasilokaṃ pajahissāma.
