51. 大盗经
"比丘们,具备三种特质的大盗能够破墙而入、抢劫财物、洗劫整个房子,还能在路上拦截行人。是哪三种呢?在这里,比丘们,大盗依靠险要之地,依靠隐蔽之处,依靠强权之人。
"比丘们,大盗如何依靠险要之地呢?在这里,比丘们,大盗依靠险峻的河流或山地。这就是,比丘们,大盗依靠险要之地。
"比丘们,大盗如何依靠隐蔽之处呢?在这里,比丘们,大盗依靠茂密的草丛,或茂密的树林,或堤坝,或广大的森林。这就是,比丘们,大盗依靠隐蔽之处。
"比丘们,大盗如何依靠强权之人呢?在这里,比丘们,大盗依靠国王或大臣。他心想:'如果有人对我说什么,这些国王或大臣会为我辩护。'如果有人对他说什么,那些国王或大臣就会为他辩护。这就是,比丘们,大盗依靠强权之人。比丘们,具备这三种特质的大盗能够破墙而入、抢劫财物、洗劫整个房子,还能在路上拦截行人。
"同样地,比丘们,具备三种特质的恶比丘会伤害自己,被智者谴责,并积累许多罪业。是哪三种呢?在这里,比丘们,恶比丘依靠不正当之处,依靠隐蔽之处,依靠强权之人。
"比丘们,恶比丘如何依靠不正当之处呢?在这里,比丘们,恶比丘具有不正当的身业,具有不正当的语业,具有不正当的意业。这就是,比丘们,恶比丘依靠不正当之处。
"比丘们,恶比丘如何依靠隐蔽之处呢?在这里,比丘们,恶比丘持有邪见,具有极端的观点。这就是,比丘们,恶比丘依靠隐蔽之处。
"比丘们,恶比丘如何依靠强权之人呢?在这里,比丘们,恶比丘依靠国王或大臣。他心想:'如果有人对我说什么,这些国王或大臣会为我辩护。'如果有人对他说什么,那些国王或大臣就会为他辩护。这就是,比丘们,恶比丘依靠强权之人。比丘们,具备这三种特质的恶比丘会伤害自己,被智者谴责,并积累许多罪业。"

这时,两位年老衰弱、高龄百二十岁的婆罗门来到世尊处。到达后,与世尊互相问候。寒暄完毕,坐在一旁。坐下后,这些婆罗门对世尊说:"乔达摩先生,我们是年老衰弱、高龄百二十岁的婆罗门。我们没有行善,没有修福,没有建立庇护。请乔达摩先生教导我们,指导我们,使我们长期获得利益和快乐。"
"确实,婆罗门们,你们年老衰弱、高龄百二十岁。你们没有行善,没有修福,没有建立庇护。婆罗门们,这个世界被老、病、死所驱使。婆罗门们,当世界如此被老、病、死驱使时,在此世间以身自制、以语自制、以意自制,这将成为人死后的庇护、避难所、岛屿、归依和终极目标。"
"生命短暂,寿命将尽,
老年来临时无处可逃。
看到死亡的恐惧,
应行善积福以得安乐。
"此世若能身自制,
语言和心意也自制;
此善行将为亡者带来快乐,
生前所做善业皆有益。"

这时,两位年老衰弱、高龄百二十岁的婆罗门来到世尊处。到达后,向世尊致敬,然后坐在一旁。坐下后,这些婆罗门对世尊说:"乔达摩先生,我们是年老衰弱、高龄百二十岁的婆罗门。我们没有行善,没有修福,没有建立庇护。请乔达摩先生教导我们,指导我们,使我们长期获得利益和快乐。"
"确实,婆罗门们,你们年老衰弱、高龄百二十岁。你们没有行善,没有修福,没有建立庇护。婆罗门们,这个世界被老、病、死所燃烧。婆罗门们,当世界如此被老、病、死燃烧时,在此世间以身自制、以语自制、以意自制,这将成为人死后的庇护、避难所、岛屿、归依和终极目标。"

Idha, bhikkhave, mahācoro visamanissito ca hoti, gahananissito ca hoti, balavanissito ca hoti. Kathañca, bhikkhave, mahācoro visamanissito hoti? Idha, bhikkhave, mahācoro nadīviduggaṃ vā nissito hoti pabbatavisamaṃ vā. Evaṃ kho, bhikkhave, mahācoro visamanissito hoti.

Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sāraṇīyaṃ vītisāretvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu. Ekamantaṃ nisinnā kho te brāhmaṇā bhagavantaṃ etadavocuṃ– “mayamassu, bho gotama, brāhmaṇā jiṇṇā vuddhā mahallakā addhagatā vayo-anuppattā vīsavassasatikā jātiyā; te camhā akatakalyāṇā akatakusalā akatabhīruttāṇā.
