有个时候,佛陀住在舍卫城的祇树林给孤独园,有一天,佛陀对出家弟子们说:“比丘们(出家人)!过去、现在、未来的眼睛、耳朵、鼻子、舌头、身体、内心随时在变化,无法永远存在,无法永恒保持不变,无法永远拥有,是最终带来痛苦的,不是真实、永远存在的我。
比丘们!当你们有了这个正确的见解,那就是已经受到了如来的教导。已经受到如来教导的圣弟子们,他们不会回忆、忆念过去的眼睛、耳朵、鼻子、舌头、身体、内心,也不会喜欢、喜爱现在的眼睛、耳朵、鼻子、舌头、身体、内心,更不会对未来的眼睛、耳朵、鼻子、舌头、身体、内心有所期待、盼望。他们会逐渐除灭对过去、现在、未来眼睛、耳朵、鼻子、舌头、身体、内心生起的贪欲、渴爱,他们不会执着和挂念过去、现在、未来的眼睛、耳朵、鼻子、舌头、身体、内心,他们会灭尽由过去、现在、未来眼睛、耳朵、鼻子、舌头、身体、内心生起的一切烦恼和痛苦。”
佛陀说法后,听法的出家弟子们都再次的顶礼佛陀,随喜赞叹佛陀说法的无量功德,他们都按着佛陀所说的法去修行。
