这是我亲身听闻到的,有个时候,佛陀住在拘利国名为哈利达瓦萨那的拘利人村庄。那时,拘利人之子布那修牛行,以及无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行,来到佛陀处。靠近后,拘利人之子布那修牛行向佛陀行礼,然后坐在一旁。而无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行与佛陀互相问候。互相问候寒暄后,他像狗一样蹲下,坐在一旁。坐在一旁的拘利人之子布那修牛行对佛陀说:"尊者,这位无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行是苦行者,吃地上的食物。他长期完全奉行这种狗行。他的去处如何,来世如何?"
"布那,住口!不要问如来这个。"
第二次,拘利人之子布那修牛行... 第三次,拘利人之子布那修牛行对佛陀说:"尊者,这位无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行是苦行者,吃地上的食物。他长期完全奉行这种狗行。他的去处如何,来世如何?"
"布那,如来确实不想回答你。但是,住口!不要问如来这个;如来还是会为你解释。布那,在这里,某人完全无间断地修习狗行,完全无间断地修习狗戒,完全无间断地修习狗心,完全无间断地修习狗举止。他完全无间断地修习狗行、狗戒、狗心、狗举止后,身坏命终,往生到狗的同伴中。如果他有这样的见解:'以此戒或禁戒或苦行或梵行,我将成为天神或某种天神',这是他的邪见。布那,如来说邪见者有两种去处之一:地狱或畜生界。因此,布那,如果狗行成功了,就会导致往生狗的同伴中;如果失败了,就会导致地狱。"
听到这番话,无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行哭泣流泪。
于是佛陀对拘利人之子布那修牛行说:"布那,这就是如来不想回答你的原因。住口!不要问如来这个。"
"尊者,我不是因为尊者这样对我说而哭泣。事实上,尊者,我长期完全奉行这种狗行。尊者,这位拘利人之子布那修牛行。他长期完全奉行这种牛行。他的去处如何,来世如何?"
"塞尼亚,住口!不要问如来这个。"
第二次,无衣行者塞尼亚... 第三次,无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行对佛陀说:"尊者,这位拘利人之子布那修牛行。他长期完全奉行这种牛行。他的去处如何,来世如何?"
"塞尼亚,如来确实不想回答你。但是,住口!不要问如来这个;如来还是会为你解释。在这里,塞尼亚,某人完全无间断地修习牛行,完全无间断地修习牛戒,完全无间断地修习牛心,完全无间断地修习牛举止。他完全无间断地修习牛行、牛戒、牛心、牛举止后,身坏命终,往生到牛的同伴中。如果他有这样的见解:'以此戒或禁戒或苦行或梵行,我将成为天神或某种天神',这是他的邪见。塞尼亚,如来说邪见者有两种去处之一:地狱或畜生界。因此,塞尼亚,如果牛行成功了,就会导致往生牛的同伴中;如果失败了,就会导致地狱。"
听到这番话,拘利人之子布那修牛行哭泣流泪。
于是佛陀对无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行说:"塞尼亚,这就是如来不想回答你的原因。住口!不要问如来这个。"
"尊者,我不是因为尊者这样对我说而哭泣。事实上,尊者,我长期完全奉行这种牛行。尊者,我对尊者有如此信心;尊者能以这样的方式说法,使我能舍弃这种牛行,使这位无衣行者塞尼亚能舍弃那种狗行。"
"那么,布那,听着,好好用心,如来要说了。"
"是的,尊者。"拘利人之子布那修牛行回答佛陀。佛陀说:
"布那,有四种业(业解释,见第四百四十六章),是如来亲自证知、亲证后宣说的。哪四种?布那,有黑业黑报;布那,有白业白报;布那,有黑白业黑白报;布那,有非黑非白业非黑非白报,能导致业尽。
"布那,什么是黑业黑报?在这里,布那,某人造作有害的身行,造作有害的语行,造作有害的意行。他造作有害的身行、语行、意行后,往生到有害的世界。他往生到有害的世界后,有害的触接触他。被有害的触接触后,他感受有害的、极其痛苦的感受,就像地狱众生一样(触解释:就是六触;眼触、耳触、鼻触、舌触、身触、意触解释,见第一百八十九章)。布那,这就是有情依业而生(有情解释:有生命和情感的生命体);造作什么业,就往生到那里;往生后,诸触接触他。布那,如来就这样说:'有情是业的继承者'。布那,这就是所谓的黑业黑报。
"布那,什么是白业白报?在这里,布那,某人造作无害的身行,造作无害的语行,造作无害的意行。他造作无害的身行、语行、意行后,往生到无害的世界。他往生到无害的世界后,无害的触接触他。被无害的触接触后,他感受无害的、极其快乐的感受,就像遍净天众生一样(遍净天解释:音译首诃既那、首波讫栗那、羞讫、摩首。又作遍净天、无量净天、广善天、净难逮天。为色界十八天之一。即第三禅中最上位之天。生此天者,受乐遍满,故称遍净。立世阿毗昙论卷七载,由与上品三禅相应之业而生此天,其寿量四大劫。彰所知论卷上、杂阿毗昙心论卷二等则谓寿量六十四劫,身量六十四由旬;众生解释,见第三百八十八章)。布那,这就是有情依业而生;造作什么业,就往生到那里;往生后,诸触接触他。布那,如来就这样说:'有情是业的继承者'。布那,这就是所谓的白业白报。
"布那,什么是黑白业黑白报?在这里,布那,某人造作既有害又无害的身行,造作既有害又无害的语行,造作既有害又无害的意行。他造作既有害又无害的身行、语行、意行后,往生到既有害又无害的世界。他往生到既有害又无害的世界后,既有害又无害的触接触他。被既有害又无害的触接触后,他感受既有害又无害的、苦乐掺杂的感受,就像某些人类、某些天神和某些堕处众生一样(天神解释,见第八百零五章)。布那,这就是有情依业而生;造作什么业,就往生到那里;往生后,诸触接触他。布那,如来就这样说:'有情是业的继承者'。布那,这就是所谓的黑白业黑白报。
"布那,什么是非黑非白业非黑非白报,能导致业尽?布那,在这里,为了断除那黑业黑报而有的意志,为了断除那白业白报而有的意志,为了断除那黑白业黑白报而有的意志——这就是所谓的非黑非白业非黑非白报,能导致业尽。布那,这就是如来所说的四种业,是如来亲自证知、亲证后宣说的。"
听闻此言,拘利人之子布那修牛行对佛陀说:"殊胜啊,尊者!殊胜啊,尊者!就像有人扶正倒下的东西,揭开遮蔽的东西,为迷路者指明道路,在黑暗中举起油灯,使有眼者得见诸色(色解释:物质事物)。同样地,尊者以种种方便开示法。尊者,我归依世尊您,归依法,归依比丘僧。愿世尊从今日起终生摄受我为优婆塞。"
而无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行对佛陀说:"殊胜啊,尊者!殊胜啊,尊者!就像有人扶正倒下的东西,揭开遮蔽的东西,为迷路者指明道路,在黑暗中举起油灯,使有眼者得见诸色。同样地,世尊以种种方便开示法。尊者,我归依世尊,归依法,归依比丘僧。尊者,我愿在世尊座下出家,我愿受具足戒。"
"塞尼亚,凡先前是外道的人,想在此法律中出家(律解释:戒律),想受具足戒,他必须四个月别住(具足戒解释:音译邬波三钵那。意译近圆,有亲近涅槃之义。又作近圆戒、近具戒、大戒。略称具戒。指比丘、比丘尼所应受持之戒律;因与沙弥、沙弥尼所受十戒相比,戒品具足,故称具足戒。依戒法规定,受持具足戒即正式取得比丘、比丘尼之资格,一般而言,比丘戒有250戒,比丘尼戒有348戒)。四个月过后,诸比丘欢喜则令出家,令受具足戒成为比丘。不过,如来也知道人与人之间是有差别的。"
"尊者,如果先前是外道的人,想在此法律中出家,想受具足戒,他们必须四个月别住,四个月过后,诸比丘欢喜则令出家,令受具足戒成为比丘,那么我愿意别住四年。四年过后,诸比丘欢喜则令我出家,令我受具足戒成为比丘。"
无衣行者塞尼亚修狗行得以在佛陀座下出家,得受具足戒。受具足戒不久,塞尼亚尊者独处、远离、不放逸、精进、专心一意地生活,不久便亲自证知、证悟、成就并安住于善男子正当地从家出家、进入无家的生活所追求的那无上梵行的究竟(梵行解释:清净的行为,也就是断绝淫欲的行为,也指修行八正道)。他了知:"生已尽,梵行已立,所作已办,不受后有。"塞尼亚尊者成为阿罗汉之一。

78. Evaṃ me sutaṃ– ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā koliyesu viharati haliddavasanaṃ nāma koliyānaṃ nigamo. Atha kho puṇṇo ca koliyaputto govatiko acelo ca seniyo kukkuravatiko yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamiṃsu; upasaṅkamitvā puṇṇo koliyaputto govatiko bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi. Acelo pana seniyo kukkuravatiko bhagavatā saddhiṃ sammodi. Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sāraṇīyaṃ vītisāretvā kukkurova palikujjitvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi. Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho puṇṇo koliyaputto govatiko bhagavantaṃ etadavoca– “ayaṃ bhante, acelo seniyo kukkuravatiko dukkarakārako chamānikkhittaṃ bhojanaṃ bhuñjati. Idha, puṇṇa, ekacco kukkuravataṃ bhāveti paripuṇṇaṃ abbokiṇṇaṃ, kukkurasīlaṃ bhāveti paripuṇṇaṃ abbokiṇṇaṃ, kukkuracittaṃ bhāveti paripuṇṇaṃ abbokiṇṇaṃ kukkurākappaṃ bhāveti paripuṇṇaṃ abbokiṇṇaṃ. Iti kho, puṇṇa, bhūtā bhūtassa upapatti hoti; yaṃ karoti tena upapajjati. Upapannamenaṃ phassā phusanti. Evaṃpāhaṃ, puṇṇa, ‘kammadāyādā sattā’ti vadāmi. Idaṃ vuccati, puṇṇa, kammaṃ kaṇhasukkaṃ kaṇhasukkavipākaṃ.

82. Evaṃ vutte, puṇṇo koliyaputto govatiko bhagavantaṃ etadavoca– “abhikkantaṃ, bhante, abhikkantaṃ, bhante! Seyyathāpi, bhante …pe… upāsakaṃ maṃ bhagavā dhāretu ajjatagge pāṇupetaṃ saraṇaṃ gatan”ti. Acelo pana seniyo kukkuravatiko bhagavantaṃ etadavoca– “abhikkantaṃ, bhante, abhikkantaṃ, bhante! Seyyathāpi, bhante …pe… pakāsito. Esāhaṃ, bhante, bhagavantaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchāmi dhammañca bhikkhusaṅghañca. Labheyyāhaṃ, bhante, bhagavato santike pabbajjaṃ, labheyyaṃ upasampadan”ti. “Yo kho, seniya aññatitthiyapubbo imasmiṃ dhammavinaye ākaṅkhati pabbajjaṃ, ākaṅkhati upasampadaṃ so cattāro māse parivasati. Catunnaṃ māsānaṃ accayena āraddhacittā bhikkhū pabbājenti, upasampādenti bhikkhubhāvāya. Api ca mettha puggalavemattatā viditā”ti.
“Sace, bhante, aññatitthiyapubbā imasmiṃ dhammavinaye ākaṅkhantā pabbajjaṃ ākaṅkhantā upasampadaṃ te cattāro māse parivasanti catunnaṃ māsānaṃ accayena āraddhacittā bhikkhū pabbājenti upasampādenti bhikkhubhāvāya, ahaṃ cattāri vassāni parivasissāmi. Catunnaṃ vassānaṃ accayena āraddhacittā bhikkhū pabbājentu, upasampādentu bhikkhubhāvāyā”ti. Alattha kho acelo seniyo kukkuravatiko bhagavato santike pabbajjaṃ, alattha upasampadaṃ. Acirūpasampanno kho panāyasmā seniyo eko vūpakaṭṭho appamatto ātāpī pahitatto viharanto nacirasseva– yassatthāya kulaputtā sammadeva agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajanti tadanuttaraṃ– brahmacariyapariyosānaṃ diṭṭheva dhamme sayaṃ abhiññā sacchikatvā upasampajja vihāsi. ‘Khīṇā jāti, vusitaṃ brahmacariyaṃ, kataṃ karaṇīyaṃ, nāparaṃ itthattāyā’ti abbhaññāsi. Aññataro kho panāyasmā seniyo arahataṃ ahosīti.
